Exploring the impact of droughts in the transboundary region along the Prut Valley (Romania/Republic of Moldova)

Project description

This research aims to identify the most performant, locally-adapted coping paths for transboundary hydro-climatic risks specific to the rural areas along the Prut Valley, using a participatory, multi-criteria approach. To this end, 5-7 pairs of rural settlements across the Romania-Republic of Moldova border will be selected. This will result in multiple benefits for local communities, as the identified paths can be used to ground decision-making in an area which is subject to severe multi-hazards, among which the hydro-climatic ones (e.g., floods, droughts, hail/wind/snow storms, heat/cold waves) are the most relevant, and to channel the financial and human resources to the optimal decisions for the environment, people and their communities and economy.
