Based on solid experience in national and European research projects (including ESPON – European Spatial Planning Observation Network), the laboratory brings together experts from various fields of human geography, with a strong orientation toward quantitative analysis, local‑level data acquisition, and regional science. The researchers are proficient in all relevant software in the field (ArcGIS, open‑source mapping solutions, geostatistical tools) and have a strong background in theoretical geography and project management.
The laboratory’s team is a long‑term partner of the Ministry of Development and Public Housing, with recent collaborations including studies and decision‑support activities for the implementation of functional rural areas in Romania, among other research initiatives. The team has coordinated various mapping projects, including the online version of the Atlas of Romania, and manages multiple datasets of academic interest—spatial accessibility models, demographic transformations at the local scale, company location patterns in the economic landscape, as well as historical data.
Services
Elaboration of local and regional masterplans of territorial development
An elaboration of local and regional masterplans for territorial development is the comprehensive process of designing strategic, long-term blueprints that guide the sustainable physical, economic, and ecological growth of a specific geographic area. It integrates spatial data, environmental monitoring, socio-economic trends, and infrastructure needs to optimize land use, protect natural resources, and coordinate public investments. Ultimately, these masterplans serve as binding or advisory frameworks ensuring that local municipal growth and regional expansion align cohesively, minimizing territorial imbalances while fostering economic resilience and community well-being.
Equipment
Lenovo ThinkCentre M90a_Pro, working station All in One V1 - Quantity: 5
Is a premium, compact desktop workstation that integrates powerful computing components. The Lenovo ThinkCentre M90a Pro All-in-One is a space-saving, high-performance workstation featuring a spacious 27-inch display, an efficient Intel Core Ultra 5 225 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a fast 1 TB SSD. Designed to minimize clutter, it integrates computing power directly into its monitor, making it an ideal, streamlined solution for modern laboratory environments. This system serves as a versatile workstation for both teaching and research. Its large screen is perfect for photointerpretation and navigating complex GIS interfaces, while the robust processor and SSD ensure quick loading of high-resolution imagery and spatial datasets. It is an excellent node for student learning and the day-to-day execution of geospatial data analysis, cartographic design, and environmental modeling workflows.
